Art Club Update
By: Aurelian Greeno, March 15, 2016
This year, three members of the art club and the art teacher at NBHS: Aurelian Greeno, Alexis Julien, Valerie Buchanan, and Mr. Luke Archer, painted a large mural of a tiger’s face on one of the walls in the athletic hallway of the school.
“I am very pleased with how the tiger face painting turned out in the athletic wing! Mr. Luderman presented to concept to me earlier in the fall. I think the painting does a good job of illustrating the "Who We" spirit here at NBHS. It is something that will make our fans proud and something the visitors will see when they enter our athletic environment. The Art Club students that were involved in the project did a great job of crafting the piece well. There is always some apprehension in taking on something like that, but the painting was done with skill and school spirit.I'm very proud of the students' work and proud to be a Tiger!” said art teacher Mr. Archer.
The large painting displays the image of a tiger face and takes up a low hanging area of wall between the gym and the art room/band room. The project took over two weeks to complete.
“The experience was invigorating because I had been personally asked to draw and paint it with a few of my friends and it was a real honor. I think the mural turned out amazing because Aurelian, Val, and I put all our effort into it and and everyone seemed to appreciate what we have done for the school,” said Alexis Julien.
“”It was very stressful because we wanted to make sure the details were all perfect, and we knew it was going to be on the wall for a very long time and didn’t want to mess it up,” said Valerie Buchanan.
“It was a really cool experience to actually paint something that will be in the school for a very long time. I feel like we did a really great job and it was an awesome opportunity,” said Aurelian Greeno.
If you want to see the mural, all you need to do is attend any home sporting event, or come through the athletic entrance of the school and you will see the tiger’s yellow eyes looking over the hall when you walk in.

Art Club

Art Club: an extracurricular activity for school than any student may take part in. Mr. Archer was asked when art club would be starting up he said “Sooner than later :) hopefully in the next week or so.”
He was also asked about projects they planned to do, and he responded: “We have three or four different paintings for the athletic hall and projects for the community also.”
When asked about his favorite part of art club he replied, “I like the extra time with my more advanced students. It’s more open & free- less academic.” Mr. Archer talked about who inspired him the most in starting his art career, “probably my elementary teacher, also my dad.”
Art club meetings are held in his room at 2:45; based on what the project is students either stay in his room or they go to the location where they will be doing a project. Make sure you go out to the art club meetings if you are interested; they do some really cool projects.
