Tiger Sports Update
By: Chad Wright - January 20, 2016
This season is still going good for both boys and girls basketball. “Girls basketball is off to one of best starts in our school history. Boys basketball is trending upwards and starting to peek at the right time. Also Wrestling is up in numbers with David Patterson and Kaleb Andrus wrestling very well”, said Mr. Luderman, the Athletic Director at North Baltimore.
The boys basketball team recently won against Hopewell to put their record at 7-5. The Tigers are starting to connect and play as a whole. “The BVC is definitely a lot more physical and has a lot more competition” said Julian Hagemyer, one of the Tigers starters for the varsity squad. The next game for the boys is this friday the 22nd at Pandora Gilboa, and the J.V. tipoff is at 6 p.m. and Saturday at home against Lakota.
The lady Tigers are off to a spectacular start this season, recently winning against Hardin Northern putting their record at 15-1. Their only loss this year was to arlington. “Our season is going great! We're kicking Butt!” said Junior Kiah Powell. The next game for the girls is Thursday, the 21st at Arcadia. They also play on saturday Against New Riegle at home.
This is a good year for the NB wrestling team, they have many talented athletes. Recently the wrestlers traveled to Carey for their invitational, Kaleb Andrus took 1st in the heavyweight class, David patterson took second in the 126 pound class, and Brendan Cotterman took second in the 176 pound class. this years team is young so it can only go up from their in the next couple years. The next match for the wrestlers in Friday the 22nd as they head to the Van Buren invite.
It's a busy week for Tiger sports, Come out and show support their is plenty of games/matches to attend this weekend!

Off Seasons
By: Danny Crouse - November 12, 2015
Every athlete does something different on their offseason. Senior Chad Wright, stated, “I mow yards and hang out with friends; also, I just sit around and relax.” Even though Chad does not work towards his sport, he claims, “knowing that it's easier when the newest season is coming up.” Senior Tyler Stimmel claims that, “when I'm not in a sport, I lift and run on my own. I do any of the drama club stuff.” Tyler finds that what helps him the most is “having people push me and motivate me. Not having junk food in the house helps too.” And finally senior, Brody Naugle, says that when he isn't playing sports, “I play backyard sports like basketball, football and tennis ball. I even lift when I got time.” Brody also feels that “fitness is the most important to stay in shape plus eating healthy food.” No matter what your plan of action is during your off season, a good activity filled workout can always be a way to get better at the sport you love.
Fall Senior Athletes
By: Tyler Schwartz - October 30, 2015
The fall athletic season is coming to a close as golf and volleyball have ended, and the football team is playing their last game tonight. The end of an athletic season is more than just the end of a season. An athletic season ending means the senior athletes of this sport have to walk off the field for the last time; this is the last time they will have the opportunity to play this sport as a high schooler and in some sports, such as football, it may be the last time the young men suit up and play the sport period. Playing the last game is both a very special and emotional thing for a senior to do. You only get one last game.
A senior’s last game is well described in this poem by Tyler Schwartz “Off comes my helmet as I raise it one last time. My pads dirty and my jersey sweaty from the exerting of full effort in the game prior. My helmet raised as we do one last break. I look at my brothers whom I’ve played with since pee-wee ball. They, as well as myself, have tears in their eyes, knowing that this night is the last time we will ever have the opportunity to play on this field. A tear turns to a cry turns to a mild sob as I hug my brothers. We all then take one final look at the field that we have called home for the last four years. Then comes the painful popping sound of the lights being turned off. Memories of the game I love come flooding back as I watch the Friday night lights fade one last time.”
The senior football players went out with a win walloping Vanlue 42-6. The volleyball team lost their last game losing 3-0 in a tournament match against Hardin Northern. The golf team ended their season with both boys and girls pulling up short of placing in the top three in the BVC’s. The cross country team ended a good season with a few members of the team moving on to districts, but not getting the opportunity to move on any further. The senior band members and cheerleaders still have the opportunity to play and cheer at basketball games this winter, but will never have the chance to do so under the Friday night lights again.
Brody Naugle spoke of his final game as a senior football player and quoted “To be a senior in a sport, that means a lot to you. It hurts that the road will come to an end, but you have to play every play like it’s your last.” Greg Bishop, head coach of the football team, spoke to the seniors the night of their last game saying that, “This is your last game boys. The final 48 minutes of football you will ever play with your brothers. You guys have put in the work, and now it’s time to reap the rewards. I have been with this program for three years and we, as a team, have put in so much work and have improved so much, and it has all led to this. Seniors, it’s your game, this is your time. Underclassmen, play your butt off, and send these seniors out with the win they deserve.”
Having a senior athlete on your team is a special thing. One should enjoy their time they get to spend on and off the field with these young men and women. Enjoy them and learn from them, because some day you will be in their position, wishing you could have another game. The sad reality of it? They don’t. They have to play every play like it’s their last, and at some point, it will be. To the seniors athletes!
